Music

Take note… At South Bank Primary School we enjoy singing together in our school assemblies.  We have our special singing assembly once a week. In these assemblies we learn hymns and songs that relate to our Key Stage topics. We all have the opportunity to work with Tees Valley Music Service (TVMS) throughout the school year. This means that not only do we get to use the instruments that we have in school but we also get to use those brought to us by TVMS. What have we been doing with TVMS? In EYFS and KS1 we have been learning new songs and have accompanied them with some of our percussion instruments. In KS2 the Year 5s and 6s have been learning Taiko Drumming and Years 3 and 4 have been learning how to play the recorder. In the spring term Support Bases 1 and 2 learned new songs and accompanied them with instruments and in the summer term Support Base 3 has been learning how to play African Drums.  We will also be learning about music throughout history and how to compose our own music, which we can then perform to others.                         At different times of the year we take part in other musical events outside school.  In December a choir of KS2 children sang in a big concert at Eston Leisure Centre called "Snappy Christmas"  We sang lots of different Christmas songs and had a huge amount of fun.  Also during December another choir of KS2 children went out in the community to sing Christmas carols.  We sang at South Bank Christmas market, Asda, Briarwood nursing home and Primrose Court nursing home. In the Spring term a choir of KS1 children sang in "Snappy Spring" which was again held at Eston Leisure Centre.  We learned lots of songs about spring and especially enjoyed the "Spring Chicken" song! In the Summer term a choir of KS2 children joined in with a concert called "Snappy Carmen".  This was based on the opera Carmen by the composer Bizet.  We had mixed feelings about this concert, some of us really enjoyed it but others were not so keen.  Here are some photos from the event.                         We are very much looking forward to next term when we can start rehearsing for "Snappy Christmas 2018".
