Welcome to Year 4

Curriculum

Spring

Our topic for Spring is the Stone Age to the Iron Age. During this topic we will talk about changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will also study in detail an aspect of our local history including iron stone mining, and how this shaped the area we live in, which will include using fieldwork to observe measure and record the human and physical features of South Bank.  Our science topics will include Rocks and Fossils and Classification.  We will compare and group together different kinds of rocks on the basis of their appearance and simple physical properties and describe how fossils are formed when things that have lived are trapped within rock. As part of classification topic we will construct and interpret a variety of food chains, identifying producers, predators and prey. We will also explore and use classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in our local and wider environment.

Summer

Our  topic for Summer Term  is ‘Water, water everywhere.’ During this topic we will be learning about water on Earth, the water cycle and rivers and oceans. We will be looking at human use and abuse of water, floods, droughts, tsunamis and will also compare and locate wet and dry countries in the world.
