Welcome to Year 1

This is the year 1 page please find the all the relevant information below.

Curriculum

The topic for the Autumn Term is OUR PLANET.

We learnt about earth in space, different climates, extreme weather and physical phenomena such as volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes and Hurricane Irma. To make this even more exciting we have visited Magna Science Adventure Centre in Sheffield. We observed a fire tornado, experimented with air and water and explored earth.

The topic for the Spring Term is CHINA.

We have followed in the footsteps of Barnaby Bear and visited famous sights and cultural events, learning about the agriculture in China. We have visited a local Chinese restaurant to sample authentic Chinese food and even had a go at using chopsticks!

The topic for the Summer Term is KNIGHTS and CASTLES.

Would you like living in medieval times, when you had to defend your land with swords and shields? What would it have been like for a knight in armour? Could you fight dragons? Journey with us to times long past. Who knows, we might end up in a real castle!

Home Learning

Reading

Please make sure your child brings their book bag, reading book and reading record everyday. Your child will be able to change their reading book on a morning.

Each time children read at home they will get a reading raffle ticket. The raffle is drawn weekly so the more you read the more chance you have to win a prize!

Homework

Homework is given out every Friday.

Please return to school by the following Thursday.

These are the spellings (first three pages) children in Year 1 need to know by the end of the year. Please support your child to practise spelling the words your child brings home. Spellings will also be given out on a Friday and the children will be tested on them on the following Monday.
